Many K-12 districts rely on E-rate funding to obtain affordable telecommunications, broadband Internet access and internal network connections. E-rate is a program under the direction of the FCC that helps to fund these types of technologies. Earlier this year, E-rate announced that it would take a number of steps to to try to increase broadband funding and re-direct program funds to pay for the most in-demand technologies. As a result, the popular program is now at a bit of a crossroads. Funds for Learning, a national E-rate consulting firm has now released its 2014 survey on the E-rate program. The official results were announced in conjunction with ISTE 2014, widely recognized as the premier K-12 education conference for teachers and technology professionals. “The survey results come at a time when the FCC is seeking to modernize the E-rate program. It’s important to give people a platform to express their sentiments on the changes, since the reform will have immense impact on their districts,” John Harrington, CEO of Funds for Learning, said in a prepared statement.
